COLUMBIA HEIGHTS, Minn. (KARE) – A Minnesota father is charged with murder after his 16-year-old son’s remains were found in a landfill nearly two months after he was reported missing.
Mary Berry is still struggling with the loss of her 16-year-old great-grandson, Jordan “Manny” Collins Jr., who disappeared in May. His remains were found in a landfill nearly two months later.
“I loved him so much. That was my baby,” Mary Berry said. “He didn’t deserve that. No kid deserves that.”

The victim’s father, 38-year-old Jordan Collins Sr., was arrested last Monday. Charged with one count of second-degree murder, he was being held at the Anoka County Jail on a $2 million bond.
“I have a lot of questions for his dad,” Mary Berry said. “Really, I’m hurt, really hurting bad.”
Prosecutors say Collins Jr. was living with his father in Columbia Heights when his mother reported him missing May 8. A criminal complaint says Collins Sr. claimed his son left the apartment that morning with plans to visit his grandmother and girlfriend in St. Paul. The 16-year-old’s girlfriend later told police he had not mentioned coming to visit her.
A search warrant was executed at Collins Sr.’s apartment May 15. Investigators say they found apparent blood staining in garbage bags inside a living room closet and several butcher/hunting-style knives in a bedroom closet, along with other evidence.
Further examination of DNA confirmed that the blood staining found in the apartment belonged to Collins Jr.

In video footage obtained during the investigation, prosecutors said a garbage truck was seen behind the apartment May 13, emptying a large dumpster. That footage led to a search of the Elk River Landfill, where Collins Jr.’s body was located June 28.
Authorities said the teen’s autopsy determined his cause of death was decapitation by knife, ruling his death a homicide.
Following Collins Sr.’s arrest, the victim’s mother, Ashley Berry, said she had a feeling all along that his father was involved in his disappearance.
“I felt like it was something he wasn’t telling me from the beginning when he acted like he was helping us look for him, and then, he disappeared,” she said. “It’s 100 red flags. It was just a lot of signs. I felt it, like, I knew.”
She added that she hopes justice will be served in her son’s case.
