The police agency has prosecuted and investigated a number of individuals who gave false information about the death of actor Vu Mong Lung for the purpose of catching views and increasing interaction.

Ifeng newspaper reported on the evening of September 21 that Chaoyang police under the Beijing Police Bureau made an official announcement regarding the death of actor Wu Meng Lung.

“Recently, a person surnamed Vu (male, 37 years old) suddenly fell from a high floor and died after drinking. Some individuals for the purpose of gaining views and increasing interaction, fabricated and spread fake information online, even cutting fake videos, causing serious disturbances to public order.

Faced with that situation, the police agency has prosecuted the case and investigated in accordance with the law,” the notice stated.

Actor Vu Mong Lung died on September 11. His funeral was held privately by his family, completed in silence.

The police notice cited 3 related cases. Specifically, a woman named Zheng (40 years old) spread a false rumor that: “A big tycoon is trying to take advantage of him, his henchmen have set a trap. He got drunk and was raped, then jumped upstairs out of frustration.”

These rumors were then posted in the comments section of a related topic, causing a negative impact on social media.

The police investigation also said that a woman named Yuan (29 years old) spread false rumors on many online platforms. This person even said that Vu Mong Lung was hanged on a high-rise building, had his nails pulled out while he was alive, had his abdomen cut open and was thrown from above.

“This person’s immoral actions to attract attention have caused emotional damage to the family and negatively impacted society,” the investigating police said.

In addition, the investigating agency also recorded the case of a woman named Xu (41 years old) who spread false information such as: “the surveillance camera image has been destroyed, there is a strong force behind it, Vu Mong Lung’s mother and sister have been arrested”.

This person also posted screenshots of the conversations online through his personal social media account, causing a negative impact on society.

According to the investigating agency, the above 3 individuals have admitted to spreading false rumors and have been handled by the authorities in accordance with the law.

According to Sina, more than 60 Weibo accounts were sanctioned for spreading false news about Vu Mong Lung’s death. More than 4,000 posts were deleted for “exaggerating” the incident.

Weibo issued a warning notice, asking the online community to comment rationally and avoid spreading unfounded theories.

Douyin also announced that it had removed more than 1,300 infringing videos, and warned users of spreading false information.

In addition, the police agency took legal action against those who spread rumors such as “Wu Mong Lung was pushed out of the window”, “Vu Mong Lung was mistreated before falling from a height” and “Vu Mong Lung’s mother was violently chased away by the agency”.

On September 11, Yu Menglung was found dead after falling from a high floor of an apartment complex in Beijing. The management company later confirmed the incident and released an obituary, saying he died in a tragic accident.

Soon after, the police agency immediately entered the investigation. Through on-site examinations, forensic examinations, interviews, and video surveillance, they ruled out any criminal suspicions.

The investigation was informed to the family and they did not object to the statement from the police.

However, social networks are still buzzing with rumors that Vu Mong Lung was drunk at a wine party, then forced to follow “underground rules” in exchange for work resources. Many reports say that he fell downstairs during the protest.

On the evening of September 16, Vu Mong Lung’s office made an official statement on behalf of Vu Mong Lung’s mother.

Accordingly, Vu’s mother confirmed that her son died after falling from a height due to drinking. This information was confirmed through the investigation process of the functional forces. The family accepted that result and completed the aftermath for the deceased.
